The story is set in 1867 in the Canadian outback. It starts with a murder and the search for a young seventeen year old boy accused of his murder. One by one, different groups of people set out in search of the young boy, all with their own reasons for wanting to find him.

The story is interwoven with many underlying themes, love, greed, inter-racial relationships and an unsolved previous town mystery. The visualisation of the cold, hard landscapes and the hardness of these pioneers lives is extremely strong and you cannot help but become involved with the characters.

Really enjoyed this trappers' mystery story. It is anexample of good story telling and I found the characters interesting and appealing. Going off to Starry as her choice from BCUK Mystery/ Thriller VBB. Enjoy!

Really enjoyed this book. Loved the characters and the glimpse it gives into another world and time. Wonderful story-telling and I'm amazed at how the author managed to interweave the stories of so many characters and still make the story coherant let alone the compelling and suspenseful plot that it is.

Having so many characters though meant that there were some loose ends to finish and I have quite a few questions to ponder on, LOL! Perhaps there will be a sequel?!

Not sure what I will do with the book next. I might pass it onto a friend who also likes mysteries, or I might put it back in the VBB. Decisions, decisions!! :)
