Sillitoe is an author who has largely been forgotten, but I still really, really like him. I had access to my parents' bookshelf, and I read their copy of this book when I was still in primary school (I remember sitting in a part of the playground reading it one lunchtime). I've read it a couple more times in the decades since, and like it better each time. This is the first time I have bought a copy of my own, and I find this edition was printed in the year of my birth.
