Hotel Du Lac

It is a quick read. It won a Booker prize.
It is focused on a women who is a sort of old maid. Lots of time is spent in the hotel with the others guests. Lots of description of scene and people.

I got this from a Bookcrosser last month and didn't register it, and shame on me, and I intend to read between now and the Christmas holidays and release it some time in January at the very latest.
I quite liked this. It's almost a romance novel (not a Harlequin, mind you) but it's a well-told story and Brookner has a real touch for precisely delineating her characters (a wealthy old woman is described as having her hair "re-gilded", which tells you almost everything you need to know about her). I'm glad I finally read it.
