Lady Chatterley's Lover: Cambridge Lawrence Edition (Twentieth-Century Classics)
13 journalers for this copy...
"As the novel opens, Constance Chatterley finds herself trapped in an unfulfilling marriage to a rich aristocrat whose war wounds have left him paralyzed and impotent. After a brief but unsatisfying affair with a playwright, Lady Chatterley enjoys an extremely passionate relationship with the gamekeeper on the family estate, Oliver Mellors. As Lady Chatterley falls in love and conceives a child with Mellors, she moves from the heartless, bloodless world of the intelligentsia and aristocracy into a vital and profound connection rooted in sexual fulfillment."
Lady Chatterley's Lover is listed on the 1001 books you must read..., and is often challenged and/or banned. This version is the complete unexpurgated version and the last approved edition by Lawrence himself.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This book is off to start its journey on a bookray with Caroley in the UK.
It took me a while to get used to the writing style but once I'd got there I was completely engrossed. There is so much more to this book than the general plotline that I thought I knew.
The ending took me a bit by surprise as I knew there were more pages to go and I just didn't expect it to end at that point. The rest of the book is taken up with an afterword about Lawrence and the writing of the book, and about its banning. In one part it mentions that the story has one of Lawrence's famous inconclusive endings, and goes on to say that "the story that had begun with a reference to our tragic age ends with a hopeful heart". After reading that and thinking about it for a while the abrupt ending made more sense.
The copy I was reading was the complete and unabridged edition, and I can see why it was banned until fairly recently. It really was extremely good, though!
Thanks krl112 for the chance to read the book. It'll be on its way to Germany as soon as I can get to the post office.

I did not necessarily dislike this book, but I think it was simply not the right type of book for me. I will have to say that I liked the juxtaposition of Clifford's high-brow philosophy and business focus with that of Mellor's physical love. It is a discourse on the focus on the mind versus the focus on the body. Do people need the physical to be happy?
As much as the book paints Clifford in a bad light, I really felt sorry for him. He, even before his accident, does not like sex. But Connie needs it. She needs physical love. In effect, Clifford is as much a victim as is Connie. He needs a different sort of wife than Connie can be to him. That being said, Clifford is also stubborn, fearful, and arrogant. He doesn't realize how bad things are for Connie, even when the doctor tells him she is unwell. In effect, he uses Connie as his constant companion and his nurse, never questioning how Connie feels. But then again Connie never makes her demands known to Clifford, either. It would probably take many, many pages to anaylsis their relationship.
I sent the book on to Rrrcaron this morning.

I did not finish this book, and I am not going to, mainly it's hard to get through and not what I expected it to be. The conversations that these people have completely lose me. I read a few sentences and my mind just wanders. The begining of the book held my interest, after that I completely lost interest. I have the next person's address and I'll just send it on it's way, no point in holding up this book. I am so sorry, I know many people enjoyed reading this book, but it wasn't for me! Thanks for sharing, and I'll be sending this book out tomorrow.
sending off to tubereader, enjoy!
Thanks mysticalzoe for sending it from so far away and krl112 for sharing!
