Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind : A Novel
4 journalers for this copy...
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in the saga of Miss Julia. So much so, that I had to go on and buy the rest of them. This story shows a woman who comes to the realization that the rules she has believed and followed for all of her life have kept her from really enjoying herself, expressing herself or even using a significant part of her potential. Moreover the authority figures that she has revered turn out to have feet of clay, particularly her deceased husband. She says it best at the end when she states that she has given up half of her husband's estate to get a family and that it's worth it any day.
I received this in today's mail from Tmoke as it starts its first leg on the bookring. I will start reading it tonight and will journal again when I am done.

Got this in the mail today...I've heard nothing but good things about it. It goes to the top on my TBR pile .
This was just a delightful story...I'm looking forward to the other Miss Julia books. It reminded me of the Jaron Karon Mitford series.

For some reason I thought this was a bookbox? I've got to start keeping track of what exactly I'm signed up for. Maybe I'm signed up for a Miss Julia bookbox, too.
Well, unfortunately, I bought a copy of this book from Half Price a months ago, so I won't be reading this copy, just passing it back to tmoke. Thanks for starting the ring, though!
Here's what I wrote in the journal entry for my own copy:
This was a REALLY fast read, and pretty cute. Easy to picture Miss Julia as the proper Southern lady. She has a likeable pesonality, and I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

My mom recently finished reading this, and says she would give it an 8/10. She said that Ann B. Ross really got it right when it comes to Southerners-- their behaviors, their attitudes, their mannerisms. I thought so, too. Miss Julia is really the quintessential old-fashioned Southern woman. Such a rich, vibrant character really makes the book enjoyable.
Mailed back to Tmoke today. Thanks for sharing this book with all of us!
