Two Caravans
2 journalers for this copy...
An author's second book is always difficult - especially when their first one was such a success. All those expectations - what if you don't deliver? Well, I think Marina Lewycka certainly has delivered with this one. It's just as humorous and just as engagingly readable as her 'Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian'. In fact one of the character from her first book turns up in this one.
The book describes the adventures (and misadventures) of a widely assorted group of immigrants who have journeyed to Britain in search of work. As the book opens we find them employed in strawberry picking and living in the eponymous two caravans. Their journeys take them variously to a poultry farm, a restauarant, fishing off a pier and an elderly care home. And after reading this you'll never feel the same about eating chicken again!
Finally, this is the first book I've read where one of the speaking characters is a dog.

I have to say I didn't find the tractors book humorous at all so not sure what I will think of this one. Will add to TBR mountain!

Am having a bit of a clear out and am afraid this one has to go. It's over 2 years since I last journalled and I think it unlikely I will read this in the near future so think it's time to find it a new home. Will be taking to London meetup tomorrow night.
