this is a novel about a fascist society set in the future that is a result of the religious right actually fulfilling on its agenda. it was hard for me to read what with its repression and violence physically and to the spirit. the book was written in 1985 and was on the new york times bestseller list for 4 months. unfortunately, from my perspective, our current government is heading us more and more in that very direction. not a pretty picture.

Great book! What happens when the religious right takes over the country? Do they create their dream theocracy, or a nightmare? After everything that's happened in our government post 9/11 (the US Patriot Act, etc), this book should ring alarm bells for everyone.
