Picked up at today's excellent meet. I enjoyed Labyrinth, so hope this one will be a good successor.

This jumped up Mt TBR fairly smartly as it was the book for my January U3A book group.
I enjoy time slip books, but I don't think it worked too well here. The author had done a great deal of research but she crammed in too much narrative and superfluous detail which made reading certain parts of it a bit of a chore. The modern story was contrived to make it that sort of genre but it didn't work for me. The characters of Meredith and Hal, and Lawrence, were too superficial. I enjoyed the 19th century parts much more and I think she could have made that story into a gripping novel of intrigue and the supernatural.

I offered this in a bookswap and it was won by teachie. I'll give it to her at the High Wycombe meet tomorrow.
