This book was chosen because it is on the 2009 Reading Olympics list for Bucks County, and Morrisville's Gifted 6-12 students are required to read one Reading Olympics book per month this school year. Our goal is to get the books on the list, journal about them as we read them, have a release party at the end of the school year, and track the journey of our books next school year. We're excited to see where this book goes!

My name is Matt and go to Morrisville Middle school. I found out about this book from my gifted teacher. We have to read one reading olympics book per month. In the beginning of the story Cracker lived with a boy named Willie but the landlord would not let him keep him. They sent Cracker to a training school where she was assigned a handler by the name of Rick. They worked well together and were sent to Vietnam. During their missions Cracker was lost and Rick did everything he could to get her back. At the end his work paid off and he was the only handler in the 67th ISPD to get his dog back. I liked this book because it was a heart-warming story about the bond between man and dog. I thought it was an informative story because it showed us how many precautions soldiers had to make in the war. If they made one mistake they could lose their lives.

HI this is juliana again. I read Cracker and liked the fact that it is from the perspective of a german sheperd. Cracker is taken from her home and trained as a scout dog with Rick Hanski. Cracker becomes the best dog in Vietnam and sees war from a different view point. Cracker and Rick have to deal with the death of friends and have to kill men but once their " good welcome" is over they try to get back to normal. Try this book and be prepared to cry.

Hello, my name is Mikie and the book I read was Cracker the best dog in Vietnam. I thought this book was pretty good, but there was a slow start. The book is about a German shepherd named Cracker. His owner Willie has to give her away to the army to be a bomb seeking dog in Vietnam. She is paired up with a soldier named Rick Hanski. They have to survive through Vietnam and hopefully make it back safely. The main characters are Cracker and Rick. So overall I think this book was about a 7 out of 10. There were some very confusing parts that were difficult to understand, but other than that this book was very good.

Hi, this is Nathan. This is my favorite book ever. I loved everything about it. I do not like to read but, I read this book in 3 days. Let me tell you a bit about this book. Willie, a normal kid had a dog named Cracker. Crack is a German Shepard and is very strong. Willie can not keep Cracker anymore so he sends him to the army. Cracker goes through a lot of training and makes it. Rick is a young man that signs up for the army. He signs up to be a dog handler. Rick gets paired up with Cracker and they are sent to Vietnam. Rick and Cracker make many friends and go through many hardships. Read this book to find out the rest and what happens to them in the end.

Hi my name is Joe from MHS Gifted. I think Cracker, by Cynthia Kadohata, was a very good book. I like the setting and the personalities of the characters. The setting of the book is devastating for Rick and Cracker, the main characters, because the weather is always hot. Rick is seventeen and Cracker is a dog who was given up. She was given up because her owner couldn't keep her so he had her shipped off to the army instead of being let down. She and Rick go to the war at Vietnam as part of the IPSD. (Infantry Platoon Scout Dog) This is a book I really think you should read.
