In 1987 Veronica Frater won a six month contract to write for Farmlife ina diary competition.. she proved such a good & popular correspondent that she went onto write the column for six years.
This book covers one summer & "...is a humorous account of a farmer's wife coping with seven children, bed and breakfast and a holiday cottage during the summer holidays."....we shall see :o)

An amusing diary style read covering six weeks in the life of Veronica Frater. Veronica runs a B&B in a remote part of Northumberland as well as letting a cottage, holding down a part-time job, AND having SEVEN children (who at the time the book was written were,13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3 & 1)...phew!!!
Through the first few pages I didn't think I was going to enjoy the book, (mainly as I kept having to refer back to check which child was which!) but I'm glad I kept reading...boy, was this woman was kept busy!
Home for Veronica is a farm (her husband throughout is simply referred to as "the farmer"!) & of course is shared by visistors to the B&B. A wide variety of guests pass through...from regular visitors (some who are harder work than others) to new visitors, who all have different expectations & Veronica manages to accommodate them all. She isn't even stressed when asked to produce a meal for 9 at a couple of hours notice....how this woman kept smiling is a mystery to me! And she still had time for her children & even fit in sometime out with friends...the saying "if you want something doing, ask a busy woman" could have been coined for her!
Sadly, Veronica died of cancer in 1993...a truly sad loss to her family - I'm sure her children are as proud of her as she obviously was of them.
