Brown Elephant strikes again...1001 book...TBR
Amazon Editorial Review:
During an anti-clerical purge in Mexico, a priest is hunted like a hare. Too human for heroism, too humble for martyrdom, the little worldly priest is nevertheless impelled towards his squalid Calvary as much by his own compassion for humanity as by the efforts of his pursuers.

Finished this book on the train this morning. Many people have said this was GG's greatest work, but I didn't like it as much as the Quiet American. It was still a good read, but not great. Interesting story of a time in history I was not aware of. Not bad for a 1001 book
