My copy is not the one pictured. Mine is a 1956 Modern Library PB, in excellent condition considering its age. Which is just what you might say about James' novel itself. Click on amazon.com for a peek inside.
Received in the mail today from Watchcat as a RABCK. Thanks so much! :) I plan to read it and pass it along to another BCer.

Both James books arrived today. Thank you, moogytee!
First, I have to say that Basil Ransom is one of the most odious characters I've encountered in quite a while. I appreciate his complexity but I find him repulsive. And Verena - well, imagine a piece of wet cardboard flapping in a breeze, blowing this way and that down the street. By far my favorite character was Dr. Prance. I wish she'd had a larger role! Despite all of that, I really enjoyed this book! I think what I appreciate most about Henry James are his talent for description and his dry humor; this book showed off both of those traits perfectly. Thank you again for sharing, moogytee!
