I knew this was a popular series when I picked it up; this volume is certainly well written. I was interested in the world of the drow, and all its contradictions: how can a society where everyone regularly betrays everyone else, and trust no one, function as a society? Menzoberranzan answers my questions --- although the level of violence of all types becomes a bit wearing.
