I didn't think I'd like this book but I did. A startingly honest account of her very difficult family life and her monumental drinking, it's a wonder she managed to cook anything. It's also very funny. The English eccentric is still alive and well.

A friend of mine had picked the book up from a coffee shop in Horsham and passed it on to me. I enjoyed the book, liked her sense of humour and admire her. I found the stories of her early life fascinating. What a colourful character she is

Really enjoyed this book. Clarissa Dickson Wright has led a very interesting life and the book tells the story of her difficult childhood, her experiences of being young and female in the world of law and barristers. A very clever lady who suffered from the effects of being an alcoholic after the death of her motherand having qualified to the bar then fell from the top to the depths of no money and then cooking to earn money. A good read and a fascinating life.
