Absurd and telling - I laughed a lot - especially enjoyed the stuff pertaining to the "problem of redheads".

There are two reasons to read a book: information and entertainment. This contains some of both. The book is an easy, enjoyable read, though the ending is a little flat. There are many clever one-liners and witticisms, though some of the plot devices/constructs Robbins uses were far too transparent (e.g., an open ink well sits on a desk above a white carpet -- guess what happens?). Other writers make the constructs believable. Robbins does not; he seems a little rushed to get on with the story. The amount of explicit sex in the book is somewhat questionable -- although it does a good job of placing the publication of this book around 1980 (when it was actually published).

Recommendation: a good summer read.

This was a really interesting book--- strange--- very timely but very not at the same time--- was surprised that it was written in the 1970s (unlike the previous bookcrosser). The materialism and supposed importance of all things animate is a conflicting idea for me---- finding all things important and relevent, but not placing too much importance on the tangible--- weird.

A book of extremes--- all the emotions and actions felt frought with the most extreme emotions--- angst, elation, listless depression. And the plot as well--- from a blackberry-infested seattle mansion to a sundrenched hawaii beach to a pyramidal cavern. This is not a subtle book... :)

I did not mind the gratuitous sex--- fit in very well with the narrative i thought--- it is a raw book i think, and so the sexy stuff made it all that more stripped bare.

As an occasional redhead, and therefore outlaw decendant of Argon, I would recommend this book. :)

I found the book on the University of New Brunswick campus. I am embarrassed to say that was well over 2 years ago! I never read the book and it got lost in the shuffle of other books and excuses. I am in Ontario now, still haven't read the book and am going to set it down somewhere in Ottawa. I hope someone else will enjoy it (I did take a look at it and it doesn't seem like something I'd like) I am actually an avid reader...this one just didn't work out. Accept my apologies, Book Crossing, many other people could have enjoyed this book over the last two years. At least it was well cared for and it made many new book friends on my book shelf...
