Thanks, arrived yesterday. Look forward to reading it!
Wow, what a great read. It totally inspired me now but I don't think I could be a complete nomad like Rita even if I traveled for years I would want to come home to my own place, even if its only a week or so.
RES for a surprise RABCK.

Thanks again, dpa. I really enjoyed reading this book. It reminded me a little of an article I read about
!Heidemarie Schwermer. There's a lot of food for thought there.
One thing I wondered about through the book was the way she seemed to make deep connections with people, but then just to leave them when it was "time to move on". I was glad that late in the book she addressed the extent to which she does and doesn't feel connected. And similarly, the difficulties her children had with her decision. (Although I also noticed that her daughter, at least, has benefited from having a Mom living in exotic locations who's happy to be visited for several weeks on end!)
To repeat, there really was a lot to mull about here. Suddenly I wish I were part of a book club discussing this book! Maybe instead of just rabcking it forward I should pass it around to some local BCers and then get together and TALK! :)

Satisfied some of my travel itch. I am wanting to get out and travel more but not to the same extent as the Nomad lady in this book. I lived a bit through her travels in the book. It was well done but then I don't think I could be a Nomad to that extent. I guess I am more stuck in my ways now. For some it must feed their inner being like food. It is true as she says in the acknowledgments that she couldn't have done it without the generosity of all the people she has met. Definitely a worth while read.

Sending to JennyC1230 in Georgia with her choices from my Canada / US virtual romance book box as a surprise. Thought she might like it and it is definitely time it moved along. :) I liked this one alot though I would love to travel, I don't think I could ever go that far and leave all my possessions. Unfortunately, I am attached to too many things in my place though as the unclutterers say, take a picture and you will always have those memories. (I digress on a tangent - not sure why.) lol - This was mailed and may get stuck in an impending possible mail strike. Still it will be a nice surprise when it reaches its destination.

Thank you so much for the surprise book! This one looks interesting. I haven't heard of it, but I am going to read it. I like travelling and haven't been able to do as much as I would like.
Book Description: Tales of a Female Nomad is the story of Rita Golden Gelman, an ordinary woman who is living an extraordinary existence. At the age of forty-eight, on the verge of a divorce, Rita left an elegant life in L.A. to follow her dream of connecting with people in cultures all over the world. In 1986 she sold her possessions and became a nomad, living in a Zapotec village in Mexico, sleeping with sea lions on the Galapagos Islands, and residing everywhere from thatched huts to regal palaces. She has observed orangutans in the rain forest of Borneo, visited trance healers and dens of black magic, and cooked with women on fires all over the world. Rita’s example encourages us all to dust off our dreams and rediscover the joy, the exuberance, and the hidden spirit that so many of us.
