This book has been sitting on Mt TBR for a year now and I still haven't gotten around to reading it. Every time I pick it up and read the back cover to remember what the story is about I don't feel like reading it and end up putting it down again. I bought this book at a time when all I read were historical novels and I think I've had my share of these for a while... Time to pass it on to someone who will appreciate reading it:o)

Synopsis:
This book is set in London, 1826. Leaving behind his father's tragic failures, Gabriel Swift arrives to study with Edwin Poll, the greatest of the city's anatomists. It is his chance to find advancement by making a name for himself. But instead he finds himself drawn to his master's nemesis, Lucan, the most powerful of the city's resurrectionists and ruler of its trade in stolen bodies. Dismissed by Mr Poll, Gabriel descends into the violence and corruption of London's underworld, a place where everything and everyone is for sale, and where - as Gabriel discovers - the taking of a life is easier than it might seem.

The karma of bookcrossing never ceases to amaze me! Thankyou so much chich for this surprise RABCK that arrived in my postbox on Wednesday morning. It is a title that has been on My Wishlist for nearly a year, so here's hoping that it was worth waiting for! In the spirit of Bookcrossing I will make sure this book continues its travels after I have read it.

Thanks also for the beautiful postcard you enclosed, I guess it is one of your own photographs.

This is a very well written novel but that is the only good thing I have to say! It is about Resurrectionists in London in the 1800’s and although I knew what the subject matter was beforehand I had no idea it would be so unpleasant. It was a Richard and Judy summer read recommendation which is how it came to be on my reading list. I like to broaden my horizons with the books I read but this one contained some of the most unpleasant descriptive passages I have read in recent years. It was certainly an insight for me into the sinister goings on in the London of that period. There is not much of a plot to hold one’s interest but it did make me think about the characters that are vividly described and wondering how they could live with themselves. Gabriel Swift the protagonist starts out training as an anatomist but soon slips into a life of violence and corruption as a body snatcher. The ending I actually felt was philosophical in the way that it made sense of all that had gone before. Worth reading if you can cope with the gory details, not good bedtime reading if you are susceptible to nightmares though.

I recently offered this title in the European VBB on book Obsessed.com where it has been picked by Sunlightbub.
As soon as I get her address this will be in the post.
