I picked this up for €1 from the book table, at the Dordogne Ladies Club's Arts and Crafts fund-raiser for various charities.
This one is actually for LaBarbe to read first.

I enjoyed this book, even though I was a bit angry at the leading character and narrator for his lack of willpower and self esteem.
Martin Radford is a history graduate, disaffected, single and broke. He is offered a trip to Madeira (I love that Island!) where he is offered a job to find a solution to Edwin Strafford fall from grace 70 years before. The story moves from South Africa to England to Madeira and from the early 1900s to the 1970s and involves the suffragettes, love and politics, including some well known real early politicians.
There is a lot of mystery and twists and turns, I couldn't put it down once I got my nose really into it.

Gone to Nu-Knees, for her to read...or not, and set free.

Thank you very much, bluenoser! I love it when the postman rings the bell with a book parcel - and a three-book parcel is extremely exciting! Two of them were by this author I've not read before, so thank you for the opportunity to try someone new, much appreciated!
In line with my current policy that no BookCrossing book passes through my hands without showing its correct cover art somewhere, whether in the book details above or a journal entry, I've scanned the front here - complete with cute little Ballycumber sticker!

It's 1977, Silver Jubilee Year, and a historian is researching events in 1910 and the early 1950s, uncovering plenty of lies and deceit and provoking a whole load more!
Be warned that the narrator can get very annoying when he's being besotted, particularly dense and/or generally unpleasant - and I found myself telling him so on more than one occasion .... but I'm pleased I contented myself with muttering and didn't entirely give up on him! It was definitely worth persevering to the end of his twisting tale!
Thanks again, bluenoser!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
This was the first time I'd enjoyed afternoon tea in the delightful Coffee House on Weston High Street - but it won't be the last, especially with the added attraction of a book swap shelf :-) We have relations in the town so visit every couple of months or so!
Over two million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 more than ten million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't cost anything and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
