BookCrossing Meetup BookBox
24 journalers for this copy...

Please journal here when your group receives the bookbox. Feel free to share the BCID with the members of the group so everyone can keep track of the travels. Two more things:
1. Everyone should sign a page for your group with their usernames.
2. Take a picture of your group, then return the camera to the box. I'll post the photos here.
Have fun! :)

I met up with crrcookie in Chantilly, VA, today for lunch and to hand off the bookbox. She will be bringing it to the Audubon, PA, group tomorrow, then hand it off to ResQgeek for a trip to San Francisco! After these hand-carried stops are done, the mailing list for the box will begin.
Mailing order:
1. Miami, FL (Carlissa)
2. Charleston, SC (kiptrix)
2. MidSouth Mississippi (mississippimom)
4. Southern Maine (solittletime)
5. Albequerque, NM (Jare)
...
and back to BC in DC!

This bookbox was handed off to me yesterday and I added the bookplate in the front with the BCID and also a pocket in the back that holds business card size slips of paper so that those that journal it at the meeting can also journal it online after they go home.

I caught the book "Faerie Tale" today at the Audubon BookCrossers' Club (ABXC) meeting at Panera Bread. We had the pleasure of not only increasing our numbers by 3 new members but we also had the rare privilege of being visited by "BC in DC" - the Washington DC area BookCrossers' Club. It was great having them with us and we hope to make this a regularly recurring exchange with us visiting them as much as they visit us.
I really love the idea of the BookBox and will have to find a way to work one out for the local area - hopefully as a way of promoting and enhancing participation in BookCrossing in the Greater Philadelphia area.
Taken: Faerie Tale
Added: Spellbound, by Christopher Pike

Ooohhh! H2Omelons- you beat me to Faerie Tale! :-)
This bookbox was a great idea and I look forward to seeing where it goes after this and who it touches along the way.
At the Autubon, PA Meetup I took out:
A Writer's Time (couldn't resist- my time management when it comes to writing has been suffering lately)
This Book Will Change Your Life (which I may be able to put back in again if it'll fit in the box again when I go to the BC in DC meetup in August)
I put in:
Big Fish
Seize the Night
Dave Barry's Only Travel Guide You'll Ever Need

At the Audibon bookcrossing meeting I took Big Fish and put in Commitment.

The original plan called for crrcookie to pass the box off to me at the BCinDC get together at my house on Saturday. However, due to a death in the family, crrcookie had to leave the area unexpectedly, so the box arrived with the mail yesterday. I'll probably leave it out for people to look through during Saturday's get together, then I'll pack it up for the trip to California. I have two (yes 2!!) bookcrossing meetings planned next week. The first is with the Tri-Valley BookCrossing group on the east side of SF bay and the second is with the SF BookCrossers in San Francisco itself.
I'll update the list of books in the box before I pack it up for the trip.

ResQgeek's home
We had a lovely meeting this afternoon, with katekintail, furball, SqueakyChu, purplypup, xanderer, eeyore75, and lil-ladybug. It was especially nice to have some new faces, and everyone seemed to have a good time (especially since the meeting, which was tentatively scheduled to end about 4pm, finally broke up at almost 7pm!
Now its time to pack the box up for California. The books in the box now include:
Commitment
Hill Towns
Seize the Night
Old Age is Always 15 Years Older Than I Am
Clover
Nothing Personal
Black Ice
High Plains Redemption
The Aladdin Factor
Singing Boy
Judgement in Death
Tip a Canoe
In the Shadow of the Oak King
Congo
The Postman
Goodbye, Columbus
Eaters of the Dead
Violin

Picked up the book Commitment from the Meetup BookBox and added to the journal this evening at our special dinner meetup with ResQGeek! Very fun evening.
I added The Painted House by John Grisham.
Thanks for this great bookbox idea! Our server at the Royal Afghan Restaurant took a group picture.

I grabbed Singing Boy by Dennis McFarland and donated Twelve Times Blessed by Jacquelyn Mitchard. What fun!

I had the pleasure of meeting ten wonderful BookCrossers from the Tri-Valley area on the east side of San Francisco Bay this evening. I was a few minutes late to the gathering, having miscalculated the delays I should expect on the drive from my hotel near SFO Airport. The food at the Royal Afghan Cuisine was delicious, and the company delightful, and as always, I somehow came back with more books than I left with...
I wish I could remember everyone's screen names, but here are the ones I remember (I'm sure someone will remind me of the ones I missed):
countedx58
Kenj
Calif-BookLover
isk
JDT
caligula03
herebedragons
lisaxiii
Thank you all for a terrific evening!
[Edited to add:] I knew someone would fill in the gaps in my memory. There was only one other Bookcrosser: PleasantRead. The second person I didn't list was a non-BookCrossing husband who joins the group for dinner sometimes.

Hotel Rex
Wednesday, 06 August 2008
After rediscovering how much I dislike driving in the heart of big cities, I managed to get my rental car safely parked in a garage and made my way two blocks up the hill to the Hotel Rex, where Suetu and other San Francisco members of Bookcrossing were waiting for me (I wish I had caught everyone's screen names, but I'm always terrible with names...). We had a long and often animated discussion of the books we'd brought, and talked about the best books we've read lately. A very pleasant evening, as any bookcrossing gathering always seems to be.
Now I've got to get the box packed back into my luggage for the trip home, where we will prepare it to head out in the mail to its other destinations.

Added my two cents worth to melydia's BC Meetup BookBox Journal... such a fun idea. Also Added the book "Driving Mr. Albert", and took out "Old Age is Always 15 Years Older Than I Am". And ResQgeek, it was really fun to meet you!

The box is temporarily back in my possession. I picked it up from ResQgeek today. It's terribly heavy so I'm taking out the hardbacks and replacing them with paperbacks before it goes in the mail.

Mailed this off to Carlissa in Miami this morning.

Picked up this bookbox at the P.O. today. It didn't make it in time for our regular meeting, which was on Monday, but I'll see if anyone wants to meet again this month.

Pkboo, Azuki, and I have made our selections and added some books to this wonderful box of books.
The box will be on its way as soon as I receive kiptrix's address (I just sent her a pm this morning).

Wish we had as big a turn out as you folks for the BC meet up!
So, just our small group of people, chatting about books and toyvoyagers and other things. Sorry we are camera-shy so no pic was taken...
I am surprised by the quality of the books in the box. I put in three and took out two.
I understand this box is going to the Charleston Un-Con next. Hope it makes it in time, and how I wish I could personally bring the box there! A big wave and hug from Miami!
Thanks for starting this box. What a lovely idea.

Just popping in here to say that I forgot to make a journal entry when the bookbox was back in Alexandria, Virginia, because I *do* want to watch this journal and bookbox travel.
Hello to fellow journalers and bookbox participants.
Thanks, melydia, for starting this bookbox...
Hello to fellow journalers and bookbox participants.
Thanks, melydia, for starting this bookbox...

The Meetup Bookbox has arrived in the Charleston area (in Summerville, SC, to be exact) and I am happy to say that it will be at our UnConvention in a couple of weeks. This is such a nice idea. I hope many BCers will participate in October and afterwards. Now, I'm off to check out the contents.

At the Redoing the Charleston UnCon, I selected two books from this box:
Hang a Thousand Trees with Ribbons
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress
I put into the box three books, all by Dean Koontz:
Life Expectancy
Odd Thomas
Forever Odd
Thanks so much for sharing this bookbox!

My contribution to the box was Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman.
P.S. For pictures of our "meetup" aka The 2008 UnCon, see here. :)

I'm getting ready to ship the bookbox to mississippimom. Not everyone who took or left a book has journaled, but I see that there are only two of the original books still in the box! I've added three books, two of which have been journaled by BookCrossers in faraway places (I forget where Cimarron Rose came to me from, but it also is from another BCer, so I hope they all continue to be journaled. Thanks so much for this idea, it's been fun!

This box is now in the mail, on its way to mississippimom and the MidSouth Mississippi group. Have fun!

What a wonderful idea....
I had to take a minute to journal receipt of the box...
now I can take my time going through all the lovely books...
Can't wait to share this with the MidSouth BookCrossers Meetup Group...
You can check out the MidSouth BookCrossers Facebook page here

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know we will have this bookbox at our annual MidSouth BookCrossers Christmas Party to share with everyone there...
Then it will be off to spend New Year's with solittletime and the Southern Maine BookCrossers....

Got to browse this journal and add an entry during our December meetup.

The box made an appearance today at our Christmas party (thanks to mississippimom) and I think it enjoyed the outing! There is a lot in the journal and should be interesting reading by the time the box arrives home. We took a group pic in front of the Christmas tree :)
I didn't take any books but I did add two books to the box - A Cup of Tea and When Rain Clouds Gather - I hope someone enjoys them!
Thanks for doing the box, melydia - it was fun!

I found this journal at our Christmas Party with the book box it came with. such a neat idea. I look forward to watching it travel.

The bookbox is such a great idea and it's alot of fun watching it's progress thru the journal notes. Thanks melydia ! Taken: A Cup of Tea and Black Ice
Added: Desert Solitaire

It's been about ten months since we last heard from this box. Anyone know where it is now?
Thanks! :)
Thanks! :)

I sent it to solittletime for the Southern Maine Bookcrossing Group....
I know it arrived in first part of January because I have several journal entries on books that were in the box.... Here's one http://bookcrossing.com/journal/6211272
And you can see bookbinderskid made a journal entry here in January.
Not sure what happened from there. Maybe solittletime can help you out.

Well, it's been about a year and a half since this bookbox last showed its face. Solittletime in Maine said she was mailing it off to Jare in New Mexico, but I guess it never got there. Alas. Bon voyage, little books!

The box arrived safe and sound in New Mexico today! We haven't had a meetup in such a long time, now we have the perfect excuse to get together. I'll see how soon we can do that and take/add some books!

We had one of our typically massive turnouts for Meet-Up yesterday....just Jare & I :-)
I took out Andre Jordan's Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now; added A.S. Byatt's Elementals. Thanks for sharing!

I had feared this book lost. After labmomnm and I had added to it, I handed it off to a newer member who I had been spending time with, and then she disappeared! Well, she has sent me an email and now the box is in the hands of my mother who will get it to me. I'll share and add to it along with the St. Petersburg, FL meetup group then it will FINALLY return home!
