Classic Bukowski. Dry, precise and humorous in these tales of low-life America. The novel is composed of a number of short episodes. Each of these usually beginning with the Bukowski alter ego Hank Chinaski arriving in a new town in worn-out shoes, tugging his disintegrating cardboard suitcase along, looking for a drink; sometimes a job; and sometimes a woman. Very funny at times, very sad at times. And *definitely* worth reading.
I got this particular copy from Amazon (UK) while living in the Faroe Islands. So it's already been around some :)
I'll include a printout of an original Bukowski letter I found somewhere on the www.
