God is nowhere. God is now here.

Cheryl Anway, 17, religious and secretly pregnant by her sweetheart Jason, scrawls these words on her school ringbinder, as she tells her story and talks to her unborn child. Only hours later, three of her schoolmates go on a killing spree, and these words are seized upon as deeply symbolic in the midst of the massacre.

10 years later Jason attempts to make sense of the events of that day and his life since, and the overwhelming sense that either humans have left God, or God has abandoned us.

This is one of my absolute favourite Coupland books, achingly tragic, hilariously cynical, brutally true, but never cruel.

This has to be my favourite Coupland book so far. The characters are very well fleshed out and they feel real, which sometimes isn't the case with Coupland.
The four stories each conveyed a heartbreaking sense of loss and confusion, and the fact that the loose ends were not all tied up and there wasn't what you might call a resolution made that even more poignant.

Thanks so much for starting this ring, PussInBooks. It's now on its way to DitteL.

WOW... this was a really good book. It was my second Coupland book the first one being 'Generation X' and I must say that I think that this one is the better of the two.

Thank you for sharing, PussInBooks and thank you for sending it to me arturogrande.

I've pmed kitten99 so hopefully this book will continue it's journey soon.

Received this back today, thanks everyone for taking such good care of it, and davemurrary101 for getting it safely back here all the way from Aus! I may have to read it yet again as I've missed it while it's been travelling. It's really cool to see how it's bounced up and down the UK, through to Denmark, all the way to Down Under and back. It was also great to see that everyone enjoyed it - I do think it's one of Coupland's best.
