Synopsis from amazon.co.uk: "The Boleyn family is keen to rise through the ranks of society, and what better way than to place their most beautiful young woman at court? But Mary becomes the king's mistress at a time of change. He needs his personal pleasures, but he also needs an heir. The unthinkable happens and the course of English history is irrevocably altered. For the women at the heart of the storm, they have only one weapon; and when it's no longer enough to be the mistress, Mary must groom her younger sister in the ways of pleasing the king."

I found this to be an engaging period read that, while not like anything I normally choose to read, kept me hooked from start to finish. The author's research shows in her portrayal of the decadency of Henry's court and the social political maneuvering that took place on a daily basis. Told from Mary's point of view, it clearly shows how women were simply pawns in their families games for power and her pain in having to stand aside and let Anne take what was hers and then rise further above her, is clearly evident.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for something beyond the normal historical romances out there.
