In "Introduction to Metaphysics," philosopher Henri Bergson developes a unique
approach to discussing the foundational basis for reality. Bergson argues that
we are capable of using "intuitive" intellectual sympathy in order to plumb the
depths of reality in order to find a more in depth understanding of what is really
going on in our world. Bergson argues that reality is not ultimately static, as some
classical philosophers have been interpreted to argue. We cannot think of reality
as a "time line" yard stick which extends infinitly backwards and forwards into the
future. Instead Bergson seems to argue that consistent with Einstein's relativity
theory that in fact at some point the "yard stick" of the future will bend back and
connect with the "yard stick" of the past creating an infinity loop. One suspects
that this infintity loop itself is not static but instead "vibrates" to some degree,
thus allowing for multidimensional reality. This is a very good book, helping us
to conceptualize reality in a different way and in so doing, stretching our imaginations.
