Book Description:
At a sun-washed dock in Long Beach, California, the freighter Morris takes on a new contingent of passengers. Among the vacationers are a disgruntled wealthy couple, a father and his cancer-stricken child, a woman searching for her long-lost husband, and a female cop with bitter memories of the boy who drowned before her eyes.
But unbeknown to the passengers, the Morris is heading into a supernatural storm of swirling fog and howling winds, and they are destined to be shipwrecked on a sea of their own terrors.
In waves of love and blood they will drown, one at a time, in bubbling agony. And for company they will have those who have drowned before them - those sunken dead who also received a message in a bottle from a legendary sailor of the seas of fate...

This is the freakiest, and perhaps the most frightening book I have ever read. Passangers aboard the freighter Morris believe they are headed toward Hawaii for vacation. Will they ever get there? No. The Morris goes under and the shipwrecked passengers are rescued by the Pandora. Are the passengers saved? No. The Pandora is a ghost ship and the passengers - the young and wealthy married couple, Phil and Elise Van Buren; John Fielder and his cancer-stricken son Matt; Donna, a cop haunted by memories of a boy who drowned; and Ruth, an old lady who dreams of her dead husband - will drown one-by-one haunted by their fears, desires, and many others who have drowned before them in the fog. This book was excellent, gripping, original, deserving of the Bram Stoker Award! I highly recommend it, but beware of the message in the bottle.
This book fell apart while I was reading it, so I will not be releasing it into the wild. After doctoring it up a bit with some glue, I am going to send it to someone who I hope will enjoy it as much as I did ;)

Wow, what a surprise this was! I've heard about this book, and Holder is a new-to-me author! And this won the Stoker, so it's definitely got to be up there! Thank you so much.. you turned a drab Thursday into a sunny day!
I enjoyed this book, it had some really creepy moments in it. However, I felt that a lot of things were there for no reason (aka it dragged on at parts). Overall I liked it and it gave me some good chills (especially as I read most of it on a cruise, and woke one morning to foghorns and very thick fog outside)!
The book is still falling apart, is literally in pieces. I'll see what I can do to repair it some for at least a couple more people to read it!
