This Book is Currently in the Wild!
2 journalers for this copy...
Gail Tsukiyama is a new author for me. I plan to read this for the Author A-Z Reading Challenge.
Well, I ended up reading something different for a "T" author in the Author A-Z Reading Challenge, so this is going into sweetsangria's Flower Power Bookbox. The cover is different from the one pictured here.
Taken from the Flower Power bookbox. Thanks!
First of all, apologies for having kept this on my TBR for so long!
I finally got around to reading this and I hate to say it, but I wasn’t impressed.
Two factors made me determined to read to the end- 1. It’s a short book. 2. It had really good reviews on Goodreads and I wanted to make sure I gave it a fair chance.
So much of it didn’t make sense to me- a young man being sent to live in the family’s vacation home away from the hustle and bustle while he recovers from TB. Ok that was fine. But he then tries to strike up a romance with a local girl (kissing!) when he had been quarantined in his own house for fear of making even his family members sick.
That whole romance was pointless.
Also the fact that his Chinese family sent him to live in Japan when Japan and China were at war. Really?
Extremely slow paced and in-engaging.
Will offer this up to my book club next week to see if anyone would like to read it (I’m clearly an outlier when it comes to rating this!)
