"Six hundred dudes. One porn queen. A world record for the ages. A must-have movie for every discerning collector of things erotic."

"Didn't one of us on purpose set out to make a snuff movie."

Cassie Wright, porn priestess, intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication. On camera. With six hundred men. SNUFF unfolds from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Mr. 600, who await their turn on camera in a very crowded green room. This wild, lethally funny, and thoroughly researched novel brings the huge yet underacknowledged presence of pornography in contemporary life into the realm of literary fiction at last. Who else but Chuck Palahniuk would dare do such a thing? Who else could do it so well, so unflinchingly, and with such an incendiary (you might say) climax?

Journal Entry 2 by marko167 from Sitges, Barcelona Spain on Friday, May 23, 2008
His funniest by far. Read this book in a day and laughed most of the way through it. Palahniuk once again makes us look at ourselves and the society in which we live and forces us to realise what a sad and sick society we share.

Apparently he thoroughly researched the subject matter before writing this book and he has certainly brought the essence to life in this great read.

Which other author could include lines like "Do me a favour?"...."Sniff my nuts?"...."Please"..."My life depends on it." and make us feel some sympathy for the character?

Brilliant.

It’s been almost a year since I read Chuck Palahniuk's "Rant: The Oral History of Buster Casey", and I’d forgotten how great it is to read a Chuck Palahniuk novel, fast paced, funny, intelligent, gross, disturbed… everything I love in one tiny novel. I just couldn’t put it down and completed it on my way to work this morning.

Thanks marko167 for sharing this with me. I’ve already PM’d shimmy-crazy for an address so I’ll get this on it’s way to them once I’ve got a reply.

Another fast paced Palahnick novel, I did enjoy it and get quite interested in all the characters but I have to say I much preferred his earlier books.

Posted off to Starflash this morning (12/09)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Apologies for holding this up-on top of receiving everyones post holiday reading at the end of August, my manager left and my collegue went on long term sick in a 3 person department-every time I picked up a book I fell asleep!

This book made my flesh crawl. The characters were revolting, you could smell and feel the dirt. It was therefore brilliantly written. Thank you for the chance to read this, I would not have picked it from the bookshelf myself. I have now discovered a new writer to enjoy.

This was the first Chuck Palahniuk book I've read, although I have two of his books waiting on my TBR-shelf...I guess I'll have to read them soon!

The book was bizar and fun. It made me wonder how the mind of Chuck Palahniuk must be to come up with a story like this. Just imagine a hall with 600 naked man with half erections, bronzer tanned, sweating, eating crisps, all waiting for 1 single woman...

Thanks for sharing! I have PMed bestfriends for her address so I can send the book on.

edit 07.01.09: Snuff is on its way to bestfriends in Belgium

in my mailbox today. I just finished reading a ringbook and I have no others waiting, so this one will be up next.

I joined this ray because I had never read a book by Chuck Palahniuk before. Rings and rays are ideal to try authors you don't know yet. Sometimes you are in for a surprise, sometimes for a disappointment.
Well this one belongs to the latter category. From reviews I read elsewhere, I got the impression that Snuff is not considered to be Palahniuk's best work. Maybe I should have tried one of his other bestsellers. I did not like this one at all, to say the least and that has nothing to do with it being graphic. No, I wasn't turned off by the context. I just did not like the style of writing. The story is repetitive, the characters paper-thin. From the very first few pages, you know exactly where this is going. The only reason that I did not abandon it half way was that it is short and in large font, so I did not waste too much time in which I could have read something better.

Will be sent to iliotropio today.

Thanks to bestfriends, Snuff is now in Brussels.
I have a feeling it´s going to be a really weird read...

Well, I guess Palahniuk is an acquired taste (Snuff especially)...
On its way to butterfly-noir, with my apologies for taking so long to ship the book.

its here. I really enjoy pallaniuk, but I have to say I didnt fancy his latest so much (rant) so lets see how the snuffing goes

Journal Entry 17 by wingMary-Twing from Bretzfeld, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Friday, October 9, 2009
It arrived today and it looks like a short read... let's see - the last Palahniuk got me depressed so I didn't finish it (Diary) - now I'm interested in finding out if I like this one more.

20-October-09
Well - after trying "Diary" and now this one I wonder if Palahniuk is actually somehting for me.
Only "Choke" I enjoyed so far. Is there another one I could like more?
Snuff was nothing that keeps you reading with much interest. But ok - nice to experience even if it's really *bäääh* - but after reading half of the book, I have to agree with another JE-writer, it really gets repetitive and boring. So I really lost interest. For me this works not for a whole book length.
I have no intention to finish it while I have so many fascinating books here waiting...

Thanks for the ray anyway.

Before I ask for the next address Nachtengel88 wants to read it, too.
I will give it to her tomorrow.

23-Jan-09
Nachtengel2288 finished reading now and I already asked for the next address.
I will send it off as soon as the next address is here.

This was an ok read. It started out as quite interesting, but after a while it got a bit boring. Pity.

Thanks everybody for sending it around! =)
I have emailed the next participant and am now waiting for an adress.

If you're a Palahniuk fan, read this at least once.

Great premise, but the ending was a little meh.

If nothing else, you can finish this one pretty quickly.

PM-ed terraceWest twice now, but still no reply. If I don't hear anything soon, I'm going to skip on to the person after on the list.

3/24: Can I skip on to the next person now?

BC member, synical, sent this book to me from Maylasia. Her note said that she got it from Sweden. This book is really making the rounds. I have never read anything by this author, but I have a feeling that this book may be disturbing. I can take it... I read a lot of true crime books. I will post again when I have read the book, and then will send it to the next name on the ray list. This is my first time to participate in a book ray, so I am just guessing that is what I am supposed to do.
