Extra copy so I'm starting a bookray!

What’s a bookray and how does it work?

A bookray is when a book passes from person to person based on the list of members involved. Preferably a bookray book is never released into the wild.

To join this bookray (or any other bookray of mine) please private message me. I will be glad to add you to the list. New members are added all of the time so be sure to check the list of participants before you mail the book to the next in line just in case!

Once you are a bookray member you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you’ve received it. Then read it as soon as you can (no absolute hurry, just be reasonable please :o), and journal again with your thoughts. You’ll then need to private message the person on the list after you for their address. Mail the book by media mail (it’s cheaper!), and make release notes on the book only if you’d like to. Then sit back and watch the continuing journey!

The members are as follows:

JPandJo (journaled)
LeighBCD (journaled)
bookwormmom2
Mamikaem (Missouri)
JudyLamb (Georgia) (currently has ownership)

PM me before releasing the book into the wild. I may have someone else you can send it to!

Just got the book. Going to start today(May 4 2003).

May 7, 2003
It took a few chapters to really get into the book and understand what was going on, but once there it was nearly impossible to put the book down. The story of her life is sad but very gripping. The end of the book is tragic but also hopeful. I really enjoyed this book.

I'll be mailing this to LeighBCD this Saturday at the latest.

Excellent... I can't wait to begin this - I have lots of reading to do over the next few weeks! I will finish this as soon as I can and keep the book moving... thanks JPandJo!

I am not sure whether I liked or disliked this novel - what I do know is that I speed read much of it! I think it is an interesting idea, to take a woman who leads an ordinary life, in a boring town, and to depict her life as drama. The seminal event in her life takes place at the end of the novel and whilst shocking, was nevertheless not that surprising and was foreshadowed. I felt the author could have spent much more of the novel dwelling on the consequences of that act but if I say any more about this, I suspect I will give the plot away! I did like the depiction of Ruth and Ruby's romance, however, I thought it was very sweet in the real sense of the word.

Thanks pgsahm for starting the bookray, I hope more people become encouraged to join it. I will send this book on its way once I get the necessary address details.

Released on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 at Sent to a fellow Bookcrosser in Royal Mail, England United Kingdom.

This book is on the road again... enjoy. Mailed from the post-office on Nightingale Lane, Clapham.

This is the second book by Jane Hamilton that I've read and I absolutely loved it. "A Map of the World" was a wonderful book; however I enjoyed "The Book of Ruth" even more.

I was riveted by the voice of Ruth who tells her story so simply and yet so beautifully. As she deals with poverty, a dysfunctional family, and the struggles and challenges in her life, I am reminded of the importance of love, forgiveness and hope. I really liked Aunt Sid who played a vital part in Ruth's life. As they corresponded back and forth through letters, Aunt Sid became someone Ruth could talk to and dream with. We all need an Aunt Sid - someone who can see our potential and believe in us when no one else does.

From the very beginning of the book I kept waiting for something to happen so I wasn't too surprised by the ending and even though it was dark and tragic, if you looked carefully the tiniest glimmer of hope was still visible.

This book is now ready to continue its journey. As soon as I receive mailing details it will be on its way.
