Pre-numbered label used for registration.
This is a book full of people with secrets, people who had a hand in it, people who could have done it, people who were thought to have done it.

A book that you need to read twice over to tie it all together, to pick up the clues once you know the ending. It's all there, but like the paths through the vanished forest, they are hard to find.

A complex book, full of strands that diverge, cometogether, lie dormant for years, and finally tie themselves up in a sad little package. The list of characters helps. A little. A map would help even more.

A dark and difficult book. Full of atmosphere. Full of seasonal details. Full of fascinating, well-worked out characters. Full of secrets.

Released on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Commonwealth Park in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Australia.

Released to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of BookCrossing. Tossed this into the inky black water of the small pool near the playground. Don't worry - it was sealed inside two layers of plastic ziploc bags.

Hello there,
I finally managed to log in properly. Yet I do not know, what happened to my original journal entry for Blackwater.

I picked it up when it was floating in a pond off Lake Burley Griffin and took it home. I thought it was great, even though it's pretty dark. I have been canoeing on the rivers along the Norwegian/Swedish border and the book conjured up memories and experiences.
I usually go to sleep reading, not so with this.
I am about to give Blackwater to a friend, who is currently living in Malaysia and she will release it there.

Bye, Sarita03

Journal Entry 4 by Sujie at --- controlled release in Melaka, Melaka (Bandar Melaka) Malaysia on Sunday, August 17, 2003
Release planned for Monday, August 18, 2003 at Mailing to a bookcrosser in Melaka, Melaka Malaysia.

Releasing to friend in Melaka as releasing it here is a bit risky. Readers of English language novels in Sandakan are thin on the ground. Reading this cold country mystery brought a welcome chill to the steamy east coast of Borneo. I loved the characterisation, especially of Johan and Birger, and wanted them to live on beyond the book. The many shades of motherhood dealt with in the book were intriguingly dispiriting, though, and set me wondering about the writer's childhood.
Releasing this book into the wintry waters of Lake Burley Griffen was inspired .

I am beginning to read this aloud to my wife, Alison. Reading every night before going to sleep is a practice we began in 2001 as I regaled her with Bil Bryson's hilarious book about walking through England called "Notes from A Small Island" preparing for our first trip to England.
