This book was assigned reading for both of my sons in high school. It is frequently the target of book banning. I recommend it because, although it is somewhat disturbing, it challenges young or adult readers to think about important values, and reaffirms the importance of human relations and emotions. This is a pretty lame description of an excellent book. Read it, pass it on, and don't let the book banners win!

I found the book at a public library in Winnipeg. I read it right away. I really enjoyed it. It reminds me of Brave New World- by Aldous Huxley about how the world in each book is so controlled and emotionally suppressed and "perfect life" is all science and formulas and rules. It really made me think. The community in which the book takes place is very creepy- anything devoid of emotion is to me- i think lack of love is the saddest. I was reminded of Amish culture when i there was descriptions of how a person in the community dresses and the corresponding changes that are made with different ages. I really enjoyed this book and want to share it with a couple friends- my sister and my boyfriend for sure- before it is officially released again. I will encourage the next person to come and register. This is a great program.
