I finished this book tonight after starting it earlier in the week while on my honeymoon. So a story about a Greek hermaphrodite, huh? Who would have thought that would be the subject of a Pulizter Prize winner? :) The folks who give out the Pulizter totally got this one right. It was one of the best books I've read in a long time. The history, humor, intelligence, and emotions within this book were wonderful. Although the book feels complex, the writing flows so smoothly, it was like reading silk. It was also a book that kept me wanting to read, one of those books that you keep thinking about until you can open it back up again. Those are rare for me, but this was definitely one of them. What an interesting tale and a riveting main character! I'm going to look for someone to pass this along to soon.

This was an unusual but really good book. I put this on my wishlist because there was such a buzz about it. I found it difficult to describe though - a book about a hermaphrodite, she's Greek American, there's some family and world history..... it all really works well together. As an amateur genealogist, I found the descriptions of family relationships interesting too. I liked Calliope's evolution throughout the book. Sex plays an important role in the story, but it seemed appropriate and well-handled.

I'll be passing this on to another bookcrosser.

Thank you so much for sending this to me! I don't know how long it will be before I'm able to read for pleasure again, with a newborn, but I look forward to reading it soon - it's been on my wishlist for a long time!

I finally got around to reading this, and really enjoyed it! It took a while for me to get into it, but as the story progressed I got much more engrossed. Good read!
