This is the wonderfully told story of Charles D'Orleans...His father brutally assassinated by his cousin, John of Burgundy, Charles d'Orleans is left to seek revenge. Their feud splits a ravaged France in two and the English, led by the cool, calculating Henry V, launch a campaign to conquer their traditional enemy.

I was sent this book as a 'try it and see' by a fellow bookcrosser who knows I normally read sci fi/fantasy. My computer was down for a couple of days, so this is the first chance I have had to thank her. I am on page 245 and loving it! The language is sometimes a little stiff - I am sure the characters are probably more engaging in the original (this is a translation) - but even so it is very hard to put down. It is a period of history I feel I should know about but in fact know very little, so much of the 'plot' is a surprise. A recommended read - if you want to borrow it, let me know now, as I shall be releasing it in the wild if no-one contacts me!

Released to a colleague who is shortly going to join - pressured by myself and another friend, both of us having passed BX books!
This was a good LONG read- it follows the politics of France around the early 15th century through the life of one very influential man - all I had been vaguely aware of around this period was Agincourt - and the book tells it to us from the French side! This book is a translation from the Dutch and, knowing that, there were odd times when I thought, that phrase is a bit clumsy. But this did not interfere with my enjoyment. I'm going for a wild release next - leaving it on the train at Tunbridge Wells and hoping some kind person picks it up.
