For as far back as Becca can remember, her grandmother has told and retold the story of Briar Rose. On her deathbed, she insists that she herself is Briar Rose and makes Becca promise to track down her history. Armed only with a few photographs and barely legible documents, Becca travels to Eastern Europe, into the heart of the horrors of World War II, to find the truth to her grandmother's claim.

This is not the first time I've read a book that entwines Sleeping Beauty and concentration camps. I'm not sure why they seem to go together in so many writers minds, but it definitely works here. Becca's quest for the truth of her heritage is both sad and wonderful, and the story comes together beautifully. There are still unanswered questions at the end, and the finding of the one person able to recall the tale does seem a little too coincidental, but you won't even realize this until some time after you've turned the last page.
