WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
mailed to buocl of Medina, Ohio.
I hope you and your son enjoy this book, buocl.
This came in the mail today, I will read it to Logan after we finish our current book. Flipping through I noticed the dedication, which I love:
To Jap and Helen Gude who have broken more than one spell cast upon the author by a witch or wizard, this book is warmly dedicated.
I look forward to reading this!
This was a great book, I think I enjoyed it even more than The Wonderful O. Thurber has a way with language that is so amusing and poetic. My favorite line is:
The brambles and the thorns grew thick and thicker in a ticking thicket of bickering crickets.
Thank you so much tabby-cat-owner, for making this book available to the library!
This book is now back on the 1001 library

In the mail to KaKo27. Enjoy!
I received the book in the post and I am looking forward to reading it now.
Thank you buocl, for sending it so fast.
What a charming little book! What a way to play with language! What a wicked humour, reminding me a bit of Roald Dahl. I enjoyed it tremendously. The line buocl liked best, belongs to a passage I read a few times, because I simply loved it. I am looking forward to buying it for my daughter, when she will be old enough, but I think anyway, there are different levels of understanding for the different ages.
I can't recommend it enough.

Thanks! Loved reading his other book The Wonderful O, and this looks just as good.
Like any good children's story, there is a dark undertone to Thurber's book. Nothing is clear-cut, which makes it an enjoyable read for children and adults. The seemingly simple story is well-matched by the fab illustrations.

Book has arrived safe and sound, I will get to it as soon as I can, thanks for sharing :)
25 March 11 - I'm not sure about this book. Its a very simple story and I read it one sitting. On the one hand its a good old fashioned fairy tale, a princess under a spell, and evil duke and a prince. On the other I felt the charters were lacking something but I can't put my finger on it.
I like the made up words - "He'll slit you from your guggle to your zatch, from here to here" He touched the minstrel's stomach and his throat. and I liked it when the words rhymed, but this did not happen often enough for my liking. Maybe I'm being too harsh for a book aimed at children, the illustrations are lovely though.

It's hard to categorize "The Thirteen Clocks" - is it a children's fairy tale? A book for grown-ups? Who cares? Readers from 5 to 95 will enjoy this wonderful book.
In summary form, "The Thirteen Clocks" - is a song weaving bits of alliteration, near-poetic description, and humor - will almost certainly come across as a clever but fairly conventional fairy tale, populated by amusing variants of the archetypal beautiful princess, wicked Duke, and poor-hero-who-isn't-what-he-seems.
This is unfortunate, because while all of these characters are great fun, the real hero of this little book is the English language.
Few authors are as skilled as Thurber when it comes to playing with words, and in "The Thirteen Clocks," verbal gems pop out of almost every page. Moreover, when it comes to making up new words for comedic or literary effect, only Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky" does it better.
This is definitely an all-ages book.
Posting to "Boekentrol" in the Netherlands as soon as I get an postal address.

I loved this little book :-)
As a child, I read a lot of fairy tales, just because I loved them so much. This book for me is a fairy tale with something extra. It felt, when reading, like the sentences had a kind of rhythm, almost like reading a poem. I loved it.
Despite it was a quick and easy read, it brought back a lot of good memories.
I forgot to add something, so: ETA
But, for some reason I am not so impressed by this story as I was with the fairy tales I read when I was young. Maybe it is becasue I've grown up, have read an such awful lot in the meantime that no book like this one can surprise me anymore. Or maybe it is, because the characters were not so convincing? Apart from the Golux it felt like they were kind of flat.
It'll go on to the next reader very soon :-)

Book was waiting for me when I got back from holiday. However, I am only home for a day before heading off to backpack around Yunnan Province for 3 weeks.
As the book is so lightweight I did consider taking it with me and trying to find a post office somewhere on my travels. However, I do rough it while back packing so there is too big a risk of it being bashed, battered or getting wet. I will keep it until my return.
Thanks for sending it my way.

I got back from my travels with the intention of getting the book moving as quickly as possible when I discovered the sad news of oppems passing. I told katrinat that I am now at the end of the line, I would relist it with the library when finished. THen the book went into a box as I had only a few days to pack and move apartments before restarting at work.
I have finally finished unpacking all my boxes and got a chance to read this little delight. I have such a weakness for 'childrens' stories. Maybe it is a sign of never growing up but I just love books like this, especially with such beautiful illustrations.
The book has a home on my bookshelf until requested from the library.
