From the back: In "The Queen and I" Adrian Mole's creator has hit on a simple, clever idea and she sustains the fun superbly. She imagines that the last election was won by the People's Republican Party. The Royal family has to be relocated. They are allotted accommodation in Hellebore Close, known to its residents as Hell Close, on a Midlands housing estate. The estate dwellers are authentic in the mixture of bafflement, suspicion and good humour with which they accept the poshos. "How do you talk to somebody whose head you were used to finding on a stamp?"

Towsnsend's speculative idea is pretty funny, and the humour is not mean at all. What if England became a republic and the members of the royal family were to become ordinary citizens? Also, as it's written in the beginning of the 90's, it's a little weird to read about Diana and Charles and their little boys.

(Olen laiska ja kirjoitan suomeksi.) Huh, tätä kirjaa aloittaessa olisi pitänyt olla wikipedia auki ja tarkistaa ketä kaikkia kuningasperheeseen kuuluu. Selvisin kuitenkin katsomatta koska asia tuli ymmärretyksi. Tarina oli varsin hauska ja oli mukavaa lukea kahta erilaista englanninkieltä. Henkilöitä oli kuvattu varsin taitavasti ja hykerryttävän hauskasti.
