Dear Reader,

In this 1947 children's book, Nobel Prize winner Pearl Buck asserts that life is stronger than death. Young Kino lives on the farm while his good friend Jiya lives in the fishing village below. Both have good, simple lives close to their family work and sustenance, the earth and the sea. But the earth harbors volcanos and the sea is full of danger too. In the wake of a tsunami, Jiya particularly must come to terms with great loss to build a new life. I very much enjoyed the simple writing of this tale and I will certainly share it with young readers more now that I know it. It is also a good message for me as I begin a new year of my life. I hope Dear Reader, that you'll enjoy this as much as I have.

I found this story very moving. It might be an encouragement to so many readers. As it is a children's book, I want to pass it along to a young reader. It's a book more of us should know. So the book is on its way to Ohio, home of a cluster of good bookcrossing readers. I hope it is enjoyed there.

Wonderful, a book by Pearl S. Buck! I recently finished The Good Earth by the same author and was very caught up in that story. I am sure The Big Wave will be the same. And I look forward to sharing it with my son Jsport and offering it to my daughter Jssisy also.

Thank you, cordelia-anne! We are sure to enjoy this pleasant surprise that arrived in the mail today. I look forward to the book box that you mentioned in your letter also. We always appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I loved Good Earth by the same author, and this book was almost as good. I am going to offer it to my kids, but I don't know that it is there sort of book. If not, I will share it with someone else.
Thanks for sending it to us.
