This is the first book in the Ichiro series (which is seven books so far). This is a great mystery series in which you become very involved with the charaters. Rowland does an excellent job bringing the world of seventeeth century Japan to her readers.

Thanks alrescate, for the trade and for the wonderful card!

As soon as I read the first page, I realized that I'd read this book about 6 years ago. However, since I could only remember a few scenes (those few, however, were very vivid), I read through the first chapter and found myself hooked again.
Interesting to see that what I remembered was usually visual scenes of great detail, that some of what if remembered was in the form of "premonition," and that there were a few elements that I didn't remember at all.
An excellent mystery with plenty of culture thrown in, Shinju introduces Sano Ichiro, a yokiri who struggles with the desire to know the truth and the cultural traditions of obedience and duty.
I'm delighted to know that there are at least 6 more Sano mysteries left to read!
