Glad I read it, but ouch. Ain't life grand? The troubles of the parents (divorce, alcoholism, etc.) always fall so hard on the kids, and that hasn't changed.
On the other hand, I'd like to think that things have improved for people "on the color line", at least in some places. Even if filling out census forms is still tricky.
