Scary stuff. From what I'd heard, I've always been glad I wasn't there then, and Ji-li's story really reinforces that. Sounds like no one was really safe and everyone was running scared. It makes me cringe to think of all the culture/heritage/history/tradition that was being suppressed/destroyed, but living in terror of being arrested & tortured, or if you're lucky only losing all your possessions and your job...for 10 years?! Not fun.

Arrived in deep southwest Texas as part of Moody-Blue's Every Color of the Rainbow Bookbox. Thank you for sharing! This bookshelf is in the Chisos Mountains Lodge where there are no phones and no televisions in the guestrooms. Books, therefore, are a popular commodity!
