The Other Boleyn Girl
3 journalers for this copy...
Mary Boleyn catches the eye of Henry VIII when she comes to court as a girl of fourtenn. Dazzled by the golden prince, Mary's joy is cut short when she discovers that she is a pawn in the dynastic plots of her family. When the king's interest wanes Mary is ordered to pass on her knowledge of how to please him to her frined and rival: her sister Anne.
This is the first 'historcial fiction' I have read and I really enjoyed it. The detail of clothes and feasts and political one up manship was interesting. I felt really sorry for Mary and Anne, who through being born girls were considered assets and chatel by their family to be used to improve the family's name and position in court.
Reserved for the London 2008 convention - a book set in London
Brought all the way from Dublin by the fair KiwiinEngland to be given for the Convention - thank you!
Picked up at the convention today.
Not sure why this is still TBR - I read it! Must have forgotten to do the Journal Entry though... Anyway, I enjoyed the book, it was good as simply a novel, and also interesting as historical fiction (although which bits are true and which bits are fiction is, google tells me, open to debate).
