Samuel L. Clemens really knows how to tell an entertaining story. I can see why this book is a classic--who wouldn't want to go on all the adventures that Tom and Huck and friends did? Yes, it's unfortunate that it uses language that is detestable in modern times, and it's shocking that poor cats are treated so inhumanely, but as long as people realize that this is a story and not a handbook for acceptable behavior, it shouldn't be condemned or banned. The author even says several times in the story that this is what happened then, and not what should be happening now. Overall, I'm glad I finally read it, and I look forward to reading more Twain.
