Agatha Christie originally wrote this book under the pseudonym, Mary Westmacott. It was first published in 1944. In this book, Joan Scuddmore is traveling from Baghdad to London by train. She is stranded accidentally between trains somewhere in the desert and what starts off as a little adventure becomes a cruel nightmare.
The main character in this book, Joan, does a lot of thinking while stuck by herself in a remote desert location with her only book read. (Horrors!!) It becomes apparent to the reader, if not to Joan, that her family doesn’t like her, and she has been an overbearing and insensitive person. Frankly, I don’t think her children seem that nice either. I thought I would not like the book, but the ending got interesting. However, it does leave you hanging and you wonder what will happen. Then, I have to remind myself that it is only a fictional book.
