I loved Auster's The Book of Illusions and wanted to read more of his work. I found this one in a library book sale and will give it a go, as the English say.
I like Paul Auster. This is the second I have read by him (The Book of Illusions --excellent -- was the first) and I will look for more of his work.
A few members noted the role of coincidence in this story with some skepticism. In the hands of an inferior writer, that might have been a problem for me as well. However, Auster is such a good writer and created the realities of his novel in such depth and detail that I had no problem accepting those coincidences.
Loved the characters, Mr. Effing, Kitty Wu, Mrs. Hume -- Effing's nurse, wasn't just there because he needed a nurse, but was a real element in the realities of the story. Loved the discussions between Effing and Marco Stanley Fogg, the protagonist -- people who just want to get on with the action would not have enjoyed them, but I did.
A lot of depth in this book, especially for barely 300 pages. I must find more Auster.
