A collection of Roman Schatzs satirical columns about Finland and Finns. Bilingual book.
There's something about Roman Schatzs humour that I don't know do I like it or not. Schatzs notices about Finns are mainly already heard; Finns eat strange foods, are extremely drunk during Midsummer day and talk strange language. But the books must have entertained me somehow because I read the book. I guess the book will be up foreigners street better. I disliked the illustration style.

Kokoelma Roman Schatzin pakinoita Suomesta ja suomalaisuudesta höystettynä Maarika Aution kuvituksella. Kaksikielinen.
Roman Schatzin huumorissa on jotain sellaista etten oikein tiedä pidänkö siitä vai en. Schatzin huomiot suomalaisista ovat pitkälti jo tuttuja; suomalaiset syövät outoja ruokia, juovat juhannuksena itsensä änkyräkänniin ja puhuvat outoa kieltä. Jotain viihdyttävää kirjassa silti oli oltava koska luin kirjan loppuun. Kuvituksesta en pitänyt. Sopinee paremmin Suomeen muualta tulleille ihmisille.

I picked this up at the local BC meeting this evening. Thanks MeiMei :)
The book is fun to look at - there's the Finnish lion winking at your on the front cover - waving a Finnish flag.
Did I tell you that the book actually has two front covers. One way it's in Finnish and the text you read is in Finnish, the other way it's in English with the text in English accordingly
I wouldn't go so far as to call Finland a paradise.
It's too damn expensive and too damn cold.
But to be brutally honest again: As much as I love to complain
I have never really regretted coming here
As a foreigner living here in Finland (for over 20 years now) I'll be interested to see what the author (Roman Schatz) has to say :) At the BC meeting tonight we talked a bit about Neil Hardwick and also about how things have changed here in Finland over the decades. We no longer have FinnMarks, but Euros. Mortgages are for 15-20 (or longer) years now whereas in the late 80s 8-10 years was very common. Etc etc.
I think I know who I'm going to send this book to after I'm done :)

From Finland with love - apt eh?
Thank you! I can't wait to read this book!
I absolutely adore books about Finland as it is somewhere I am determined to visit one day, it sounds so strange and beautiful and the people are wonderful. I would also like to learn Finnish.
Thanks too for the lovely birthday card - it's sitting on top of the telly with 2 others from BCers, I have been lucky this year!
Your parcel came whilst I was in bed with flu so I was feeling rotten but I cheered up very quickly and started to skim read the beginning of the book! Do you ever do that? I am too impatient sometimes!
Thanks again birthday buddy!
