Picked this up at a City Library sale thinking to collect some NZ authors in readiness for the World BC Anniversary Convention in Christchurch in 2009.
I didn't especially enjoy this book; there was far too much violence and cruelty for my taste; a particular arm of the general crime genre I expect and not one I'm really familiar with. The plot was interesting and the aspects that give rise to the book's title are clever. Somehow the writing didn't appeal as there seemed to be far too many cliches used. I'm become skilled at spotting these since taking a Creative Writing course through Massey University recently. Cliches were verbotten!
Perhaps it is my taste that is wrong and others will find this quite enthralling. Certainly the plot is great.

I picked up because it was a NZ author
Well, I don't like Violence and Cruelty, but the back cover write up intrigued me enough to pick it up at BX Meetup.
Standard detective story. I did enjoy it. There are some interesting plot twists and ruthless characters.
