From the back cover:
Margaret Drabble articulates the anguish of thwarted hopes, the disappointment and spiritual hangover of the seventies, with a rare mastery.
Anthony Keating is middle-aged. His undoubted talents have brought him a dodgily prosperous living as a property developer, an enstranged wife, a devoted mistress, several children and a heart-attack.
He is paralysed by his situation. As are his friends by theirs. The Ice Age is upon us.
An old paperback reserved to be sent out as a RABCK to geishabird in Canada, who has this book on her wish list.
Update (January 15): in the mail, happy trails!

Thanks so much for sending this to me. Margaret Drabble is one of my favourite writers.
I'm particularly interested in reading this one as I don't ever recall her having a male protagonist before. Wonder how this book will differ from her others.

I've had this book on my shelf for a long time and I think I must move it along; I'm trying to clear out a lot of my excess books...
