Imagine my surprise when I picked this book up at Popular Book Store and saw that its price was just a bit under RM30. It's a freaking steal compared to the US first edition which cost RM90.
Lemme see... There's one thing which I should applaud the author for, it's that he manages to grab the reader's sympathy when he made Yu Yuan a book-lover, just like the same person who's reading the book. Other than that, despite being a book set in the Korean War, War Trash is clearly not thriller-material nor it is political, but rather it cleverly manages to give readers a good look at life in a PoW prison camp. If the main character was based on someone in real life, then that person has got to be one hell of a lucky person.
8/10 because the author managed to keep me guessing where Yu Yuan might end up: Communist or Nationalist?
