A Tale of Two Cities (Barnes & Noble Classics Series)
2 journalers for this copy...
Bought this new from Barnes & Noble with some Christmas cash. I think I was supposed to read this in high school, but I probably just watched the made-for-TV movie, instead. My niece read it in high school last year and was impressed, so I thought I'd give it another chance.
I have been reading this since mid-February as part of a read-along with other BookCrossers. Here is the schedule we are following, and our discussion threads: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5, Week 6, Week 7, and Week 8.
I'm enjoying this FAR more than I thought I would. It is my first experience with Dickens and he really had a way with words. It helps that my book has a great introduction that helped me understand the world and time Dickens lived in, and what he tried to and did accomplish in his lifetime. Also invaluable is a section of footnotes that explain some of the contemporary and literary references Dickens made in the book.

This book was wonderful! I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed it without all the footnotes and explanatory material, but having those in my edition made me feel like I truly understood every aspect of the story. It is truly a classic from the first line ("It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...") to the last line ("It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.") and is chock-full of all the elements of great writing.

Hello! My name is Megan and I found this book right outside of my cousin's high school in Greensburgh when I went to see her play, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. I found this book, I was completely interested, so brought it home with me to my hometown, Wexford (about an hour from Greensburgh). I can't wait to read it!
