Bought 06 Oct 2007 - charity shop

This was a Liz-and-Matt read so skipped the usual reading order. I think Matthew felt the same about it - it was an interesting read, the author taking economic and statistical principles and applying them to sociological questions - why do most drug dealers live with their Mums, etc. But it was very fragmented, with no real unifying theory (unlike, for example, Gladwell's Tipping Point) and, although they do admit this, it does make for a less satisfying read.

I'm going to use this to restart Skinglist's lost bookring, so that's satisfying anyway.

Thanks so much, LyzzyBee. I'm going to cross-link this copy with the old ring. Interesting comment re: Tipping Point, I have that and Blink on Mt. TBR. Thanks again!

This book was the sort I enjoy reading. It gives a different slant on the World and takes ideas through to some conclusion. Having said that the first chapter particuarly appealed (statistical analysis and patterns within numbers) while the rest wasn't quite like that. However, there were paragraphs within the text that I thought would be particularly helpful in my field of work (causality, correlation and regression) and I must remember what they say in order to use them. I will of course have to add Gladwell's Tipping Point to my Wish List having had it mentioned in a previous journal.

Will now ask for the next address to send on.

Sent on 25th January 2008 to cats-eye as pustefix has already read it.

Absolutely brilliant book! I really enjoyed this one...Levitt's offbeat ideas and creative approach to everyday occurrences make me (almost) want to be an economist ;-) I have to admire him for some of the ideas that he puts forth - he really treads a fine line on more than one occasion.
I have PM'ed ariuca and will get this moving as soon as I have an address!
Thanks for including me in this ring, SKingList & LyzzyBee :o)

Getting a little worried about this one as it seems to be taking a very long time to get to ariuca :(
I will PM her to see if it's turned up, and if not I'll give it a few more days then see if I can trace it with my postage receipt...fingers crossed!

I loved this book. Levitt's way of thinking is just brilliant and I couldn't put it down. PMed -BookHaven- for address but since she says in her bookshelf she doesn't have time to read now and prefer to be put at the end of bookrings I've also PMed randomelement just in case. Anyway I'll wait till Friday to see if -BookHaven- answers.

This author has a talent for identifying the cause of various phenomena by using statistics rather than "conventional wisdom." I found this book to be very interesting.

I am waiting on Luintaurien to send me their address so I can send this one away.

Interesting book. My husband cleaned house for me about 11 months ago and with the amount of books I have of my own, it took me this long to find the book. I am now pming people to find out if anyone still wants it. I am very sorry for the hold up.
