I just started reading this book for the 2008 A-Z Author Challenge. Once I finish it I'll mark it for possible RABCK for the others participating in this challenge.
Looks to be very interesting.

Journal Entry 2 by Jayebirck from Dallas, Texas USA on Friday, January 4, 2008
This was very interesting reading. A young Chinese woman goes into Tibet as an army doctor to search for her husband who is presumed dead. Her search for her true love covers many miles and several years.
I read this for the 2008 Author's A-Z challenge. I'd never read Xinran's work before, but I think I might seek out her other books. I thought X was going to be the hardest one to complete! I'm glad I signed up for the challenge to introduce me to new authors I'd not read before. It's also helping me reduce my Mt. TBR and increase the number of RABCKs I will send out.
Off to jessibud to help her complete her A-Z challenge!
Happy Reading!

Package arrived today! Thanks for this, Jayebirck, it looks good. I may not be able to start it until the weekend, though, as I am currently reading 2 books and this is a very busy week at school! But this one will be next and once I'm done with it, I will offer it back up to others in the A-Z Challenge, to keep it moving.

Thanks again.

Journal Entry 4 by jessibud from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Monday, February 18, 2008
Finished the book last night and found it fascinating. I read somewhere that this was fiction but I noticed on the back cover that it is listed as Travel/Memoir. Also, from the acknowledgements, it does sound as if it is non-fiction.

In any case, I really enjoyed learning about a culture and part of the world I knew very little about. I really would love to have learned more, especially about Wen, after her meeting with the author. I guess that pretty much sums up a good story, when, after finishing, the reader still wants more!

I am passing this on to pashmack for her *X* author in the Author A-Z challenge.

Arrived in today's mail, along with another book. Now I need to get busy reading. Thanks for sharing, Jayebirck and jessibud. I'll see if someone else is looking for and X author when I'm finished.

Journal Entry 6 by pashmack from Lake Worth, Florida USA on Wednesday, March 26, 2008
I thought this was quite a lovely story. As jessibud states above, the back cover identifies it as travel/memoir, but I thought it read more like a novel. The book sure gives you a sense of place - the mountains, the cold, the spirituality of the people...the environment becomes so real. But like Wen, I lost track of time. I was a bit surprised by how long she was actually in Tibet. The book is particularly timely, given current events.

This is the first time I've read this author. Once I'm finished with the A-Z challenge, I think I'll read her book The Good Women of China.

Sending this out to likestoreadinFL - another A-Z Author Challenge participant.

Was in the mailbox yesterday. I've already started it, and it is pretty interesting so far.

I thought this was interesting, but I did not really enjoy the writing style. I will see if anyone else doing the A-Z challenge would like a shot at it.

A wonderful story about the strength of love and friendship. I enjoyed learning about the different cultures and found myself utterly engrossed in the characters' lives. I plan to follow those that came before me and pass this book to someone that needs help finishing the author challenge.

I needed an X author to help me finish the A-Z Authors Challenge. Mrsboknows was kind enough to send the book to me. I really enjoyed the story and found myself caught up in a culture I knew next to nothing about. I wish the author had gone into more detail than she did but after reading the letter to Shu Wen at the back of the book I'm guessing the author wishes she had more information to give too. It was an enjoyable read and I will send it to anyone else who needs it to finish the Challenge too, or anyone else who requests it. If no one else requests it within a year or so then I will wild release it.

Thanks so much for sharing this book to help complete the A-Z author challenge. I received it a couple days ago and will begin reading it as soon as I finish one of the books I've got going! When finished I'll probably either send it off in a book box or check wish lists for this title. Or I'll send it to another BXer looking for an 'X' author!

A beautiful story about true love and tenacity! I enjoyed learning about the Tibetan culture through this book. This is another book that I wouldn't have bothered with had it not been for BookCrossing! I love this place!

Received today with thanks - I too have been looking for an X author. (Just out of curiosity, anybody know which name is her family name and which is her given name? It looks like Xue might be the family name..and she likes to use just her first name like Madonna?)

This well-traveled book sounds intruguing and it's yet another example of the ways in which Bookcrossing is stretching my reading habits.

I'm in the middle of another book right now (something from my Secret Santa partner's wishlist) but once I'm done with that one I'll start this.

P.S. Thank you for the pretty wintry bookmark too. :)

A fascinating book, and yet another book that I probably never would've picked up if it weren't for Bookcrossing. Thanks for sharing, folks!

I'll see if I can find someone else who'd like to read this.
