Bought at the Greensburg-Hempfield Area Library book sale to read and release in the wild.
This is one of those extremely rare instances where I think the movie was actually better than the book. Not that the book wasn't good--certainly the most memorable parts are also what I remember best from the movie--it's just that the quilters' stories didn't have the same resonance as they did in the movie. I understand that all these women and the women who came before them are represented in the stories of their quilts; they are what makes America uniquely American, a binding together of different peoples and ideas into a single work of time, art, and beauty. I think having Finn play a bigger role in the movie than she did in the book gave the story the heart it was missing.
